Resolve 11 Installation Failure

PostMon Aug 25, 2014 11:37 pm

Hi all,

I'm trying to install Resolve 11 on a new system. It's Win 8.1, an ASrock Extreme 3 with an AMD six-core processor. It's being installed on the system drive, a RAID-1 configuration and an NVidia 630 card, w 16Gb ram. Virus scan is disabled, no other programs are running. I've been running the installer as admin. The first time I tried, it hung after it installed the C++ and PostgreSQL 9.2.4.1. I had left the room and come back after half and hour, and it was still at the same spot. I checked the CPU usage in the task manager, and it said it was at 0. I forced everything down and tried again. It goes through the opening, saying PostgreSQL 9.2.4.1 and C++ and quiicktime are already installed. I agree to everything, and then it starts. And it hangs, with three windows open. The little animated boxes, the "This may take some time" bar, and the initial installation screen. I tried running CCleaner, with no avail. I've restarted several times, and it comes out the same. I'm goiing to try re-installing the beta version.

Any ideas? Any help is appreciated.

I fixed it. The problem, it turned out, was in the Windows Installer service. If anyone else runs into this problem, here's how to fix it:

1. Go to your start button and choose RUN. Type msconfig and hit okay.
2. Under the General TAB, click selective startup, and uncheck Load startup items.
3. Go to the Services TAB.
4. Check the box that says, "Hide all Microsoft services."
5. Click the button that says Disable all.
6. Restart the system.
7. Run the installer.
8. Re-run MSCONFIG.
9. Under the Services TAB, click the button that says Enable all.
10. Under the General Tab, click the top one, Start Up Normally.
11. Restart.
12. You should be good.

I don't know what the initial problem was, but whatever happened it caused Windows Installer Service to hang, even after multiple restarts. Once I figured out what to do in MSCONFIG, I was fine. I downloaded the beta, had no problems installing it, uninstalled, and then installed the full version, all with no problems.

Hope this helps.
