Intensity shuttle usb 3 on x99 system

PostTue Sep 23, 2014 4:24 pm

I just upgraded my pc to the new i7 5960x with asus rampage V extreme motherboard (comming from gigabyte x58a-ud9 mobo and i7 980x). But now i cant seem to be able to use the shuttle with either the intel usb 3.0 ports (onboard header connected to pc case) nor with the usb 3 ports on the back of the mobo (asmedia ports i think). The 10.2 drivers did add support for newer and other usb3 chips im i right? anyone that has an x99 system got the same problems or have a sollution? And if its the fact that the shuttle only supports the old renesanse usb chips i surly hope BMD add support for a least the asmedia chips, because on all the x99 mobo's that have come out these chips are on them and not the renesance one's.

Sure it will not work so use an expansion USB 3 card By syba.com. SY-PEX20045_NEC-RENESAS

It would make more sense for them to fully support the Intel controller over the asmedia as the Intel is built in to all new chipsets.
Also all the Gigabyte boards use the newer Renesas not Asmedia so supporting Asmedia wouldn't help there.

Pretty sure Asus uses Intel now. Not having any issues with their G-series laptops, which also use Intel.

I don't have any problems on my Clevo laptops either using Intel, but the Z97 and X99 boards use V3 of the Intel USB 3 controller and laptops use V2, also it's to do with how it's implemented into the board.
I had an Asrock Z97 extreme 6 for a while and I'm pretty sure it was stable on that but the bottom 16x slot turned out to only be a 2x instead of the usual 4x so I suspect they freed up resources by doing that.
People seem to forget that the more they jam into these boards the more they are sharing with each other. Sharing on the USB isn't normally an issue as most devices aren't affected by a system poll in the middle of something, but when it comes to the video capture through these BM devices they can't handle any kind of interruption.

An update on the progress of using the intensity shuttle usb3 on my new rig.
I"m now able to connect the shuttle to one of my usb3 intel ports provided trough an internal mobo header that is connected to my front usb on the comsos 2. I'm getting sound and picture, but have a lot of dropped frames when i record and watch trough media express (using the latest 10.2.2 drivers). My pc specs:
coolermaster cosmos 2 (using front usb3 heaer for shuttle)
Intel i7 3960x
16gb 2800mhz coraird ddr4
asus rampage v extreme
Samsung 850pro 512gb (250gb parttition windows / 250 gb partition for my reccordings)
2x 1tb velociraptor raid-0 (games partitions and using for converting video in handbrake)
creative soundblaster zxr (disabled onboard sound)
sapphire vapor-x 290x tri-x oc
Windows 7 fully patched

My pc is far above the system spect for using the shuttle so is it a driver issue or somting like bad support from the shuttle's firmware? Anyone has an sollution for the dropped frames? Im capturing in 1080i 50hz on the samsung 850pro (read /write according to Blackmagic Disk Speed Test = 580MB)

Could be a number of reasons.
Your USB 3 controller isn't a validated controller even though some have got it to work it all depends on how the motherboard manufacturer have implemented it into the system and what else is using the same bandwidth on the board. Your board is overloaded with onboard devices and all those devices have to share the buslanes.
The cable length could be to long, once you add in the cable from the motherboard to the case then from the case to the shuttle it may be to long and causing it to drop out.
Your motherboard may not be giving out enough power, some have found using a powered USB 3 hub can help with this.
It could also be the source signal, if it's flaky it could be causing it to drop out
