No video input in Media Express with Studio 4K

PostTue Oct 07, 2014 5:45 pm

I can't get Media Express to recognize any input from my Studio 4K, and as a result, I can't record anything.

I'm driving the input with a 720p60 signal (HDMI), which is reportedly RGB444, according to the output of the AutomaticModeDetection sample app. When running the AutomaticModeDetection sample, or when running Media Express in Log and Capture mode, the Studio 4K will drive my output monitor at 720p60 (HDMI), however, Media Express itself will not display any video in the preview pane, and it will not record video.

I have the project configured for 1280x720p60, and I have tried all color formats, but nothing seems to work.

What is your source?

What are your settings in the BM control panel?

Regarding the control panel, one setting I missed was switching the input to HDMI.

This allows me to capture with one device (a chromebook, from mini DispalyPort to HDMI) using a 720p60 RGB444 signal.

However, I've tried several other devices with no luck: a chromebox running at 1080p60 over HDMI, a desktop from an Nvidia graphics card at 1080p over displayport to HDMI using an active converter, and a Sony alpha 7s camera 1080p60 (and 4K30) over HDMI. None of these devices are even seen by the detection sample app.

I'm not sure what the detection sample app is. Normally on BM devices you have to manually set your input inside the BM control panel then again inside Media express

The Blackmagic SDK has a number of sample apps in it, one of which will report the resolution and color space of the input if it recognizes it.

I just wish the Blackmagic software would provide a little more information what it isn't happy with the input signal.

All the input signals I'm feeding it appear to be legit. I have a TV that can display all of them just fine -- even the 4K30.

Agreed 100%.

My main frustration in trying to persuade my DeckLink SDI 4K card to capture input is the complete absence of relevant diagnostic information from the BM driver and API.
