DaVinci Resolve 11 crashes a lot!? - New Mac Pro

PostSat Aug 09, 2014 2:51 am

Hi guys,

does anyone are experiencing lots of crashes with resolve 11 and new Mac Pro?

always happens during transcodings.....don't know why....

another thing that happens is when i launch the software, as i have the full version,

sometimes he just can't find the dongle....is this normal? i have 60 seconds to take it out and plug it again....

but the crashes is the worst thing....any ideas?

thanks.

Can you provide more system details?

What OSX version?

What graphics cards?

Which GPU in the MacPro? If its D300 its not a recommended GPU so your issues could be related to that.

Would also be helpful to know what file format and resolution you are using and the render res and format.

I'm also experiencing the dongle-issue. Sometimes DaVinci asks for it on start up even though it's already inserted (in the keyboard - that has worked with no problems so far on earlier versions). However re-insert it and hit OK and it works for the rest of the session.

See if the problem goes away if you plug it into the computer directly. The keyboard hub often doesn't have enough power for the dongle. A powered hub can solve it, too.

well...

it's a new Mac Pro 6 core, so it's a Dual AMD FirePro D500 with 3GB GDDR5

we were recording with an ARRI ALEXA in PRORES 4444,

i was color correcting and transcoding to PRORES 422 HQ and PRORES 422 PROXY...

the crashes were random....crashed during the transcoding to 422 hq as also to 422 proxy..

the rendering simply stops...and the application crashes....

i'm just not sure about Mac Os X 10.9.4...
i think that is causing it....i'm eager for a 10.9.5...

Hi, based on your info, immediately after Resolve crashes, could you capture logs (run Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/CaptureLogs.app) and post the zipped log file (saved on your Desktop) here.

I'm finding that the Resolve GUI locks up, but Resolve will continue the transcodes (seen by viewing CPU usage in iStat). My temporary workaround was to tell Resolve not to see my UltraStudio 4K. I then tried going back to Desktop Video 9.9.3 and that fixed the GUI crashes and enabled me to capture HD from tape again. Desktop Video 10.xx would only let me capture SD using Resolve or Media Express through my UltraStudio 4K.

Hi, if you have multiple crashes a day you have something not set up correctly and you should contact your local support office. We have multiple systems at Photokina exhibition this week with multiple random use without these issues. Please use the capture logs app to save a log prior to restarting resolve and share those with the support guys.

Hi, having exactly the same issue here as Scott Heysen: Resolve 11 GUI crashes during transcode/delivery/rendering ALWAYS at a random TC but CONTINUES to render invisibly.

PLEASE HELP!

I was still having GUI freezes with 9.9.3, so I had to tell Resolve again to not see the connected Ultrastudio 4K. Once Resolve is blind to the Ultrastudio, I can go back to transcoding again. OS10.9.5, Resolve11.1b.

Try isolating Resolve from your video I/O in Resolve>Preferences>Video I/O and GPU>For Capture and Playback Use> None. See if that helps.

Good luck.

I'm in the program for a few minutes, enough time to load the footage and begin corrections - then it crashes. Every single time. Working with BM DNG's. This is un-nerving since I too recently had other issues with the program which where compatibility issues with OS X; so I was told. Will this software ever work ... consistently?

Computer, cameras and software is up to date.

PLEASE advise.

Deactivate your Blackmagic thunderbolt Card is any is connected to your Mac Pro... And you should really consider upgrading to Yosemite OS X 10.10, it it far more stable with Resolve 11.1 than Mavericks which is really unstable and renders issues as well.

Hello everyone... Ive been a longtime lurker of this forum but a longtime user of Magic Lantern forum.

Now that I have signed up for me to reply on this thread regarding the constant crashing of DR 11 on Yosemite even on my Modified Mac Mini (late 2012) with 16 gb RAM and 360GB SSD... any ideas?

I'm currently trying to locate the CR logs...

Thanks!

There doesn't seem to be a Mac Mini listed in the Mac Resolve Config guide.

It does not have a supported GPU.

2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M 512 MB
OSX 10.10.2

Hello,

I tried several times to run a project, but in few minutes Resolve advise about GPU full, an mor few minutes all the system fall and restart. Since I've updated to 10.10 and Resolve 11 is hard to be stable.

Just to know, the better performance was 10.9 and Resolve 9.
any question Im glad to answer .

Recommended minimum graphics VRAM for HD is 2GB.

512MB of VRAM is simply not enough.

It crashes a lot indeed! I am also on a new mac pro with D700 cards, 8 cores, 64gig RAM.
With 4K DNG 3:1 compression it gives my the LSD effects when rendering or just when I am grading.
And now I want to replace some shots in EDIT mode with new ones, and it crashes instantly. Every time.
So I can't get the new shots in!
This is the most unstable software I have ever used. I am on Yosemite 10.10.1.
I am not on 10.10.2 yet, because Avid isn't qualified yet.

my solution was downgrade for OS 10.9.5 and back to Resolve 9.16. Works very faster, no bugs, no suffer.

I researched a lot of forums and note a conflict between NVIDEA, YOSEMITE , and of course al softwares that use GPU. 512MB VRAM is not the problem since I aways worked very fine., I see a lot of users with full top machines reporting a lot of bugs.

In some cases, it might not be the problem, but eventually it will be, because it is not enough for HD and above. Pile up enough NR, optical effects, or layers and you will eventually exhaust the VRAM, which will cause the software to abruptly exit to the desktop. No warning, usually... you'll get the "GPU full" if you're lucky, but simply scrubbing through an edit timeline a little too quickly will sometimes do it, too.

Hi,
I'm having a similar problem.
Working with .DNG media from the BMPCC on an HD timeline.
I occasionally get the GPU Memory Full notice, but a quick restart is enough to fix that issue.
Recently, though, certain projects will crash Resolve upon opening them.
Here is the capture log directly after this happened.

Well, then I just have to wait for Avid for qualifying Yosemite 10.10.2, I don't want my main editor te be unstable.

The crash happens when I am in EDIT mode, and I want to replace a shot in the existing timeline full of grades. Sometimes it crashes when I only scrub the timeline. Sometimes when I drag a shot from source to record monitor and choose overwrite. Then it just quits without any warning or message.

And its RAM hungry, even with 64gig of RAM, its eating it all.
