Purple Tint on Imported Video

PostTue Sep 09, 2014 2:31 am

I've got a BlackMagic UltraStudio Mini Recorder hooked up to a Portta PETRHP V1.3 Component RGB Plus R/L to HDMI Converter, and my Xfinity cable box hooked up to that. I'm getting audio and video in but this is the video I'm getting. The colors are all screwed up. Everything's got this purple tone.

If I hook the HDMI cable up to the TV, the image is fine, so the converter box works without issue. The Mini Recorder works fine because a camcorder feed into it takes without issue. I'm all up to date and I'm running the Yosemite beta without any warnings from the BlackMagic forums. Anyone know what could be the problem?

If you're running a HDCP signal into the Recorder, you won't get a signal to show up because our products are compliant.

So would that explain the purple tint? I didn't think HDCP traveled through component cables.

I'm sorry, I misread your initial post. Have you tested another HDMI source into the Mini Recorder and you still get the tint? A camera would be the best test into it to see if it's our product that's not working properly or issues with the other device.

Going from an HDMI camcorder to the Mini Recorder into the Computer yields expected results (a proper picture).

Going from a composite cable box to the HDMI converter box to the Mini Recorder into the computer yields a purple tint.

Going from a composite cable box to the HDMI converter box to an HDMI input into my computer yields expected results (a proper picture).

So, the problem must be somewhere between my converter box and the Mini Recorder and my computer, but I can't fathom why composite to HDMI to TV is fine but composite to HDMI to Mini Recorder is not.

I'm not sure why you would be getting those results either Cory. My suggestion at this point, if you don't get any other users chiming in here, would to be contact support. I know they'll run the same tests as that's the standard practice but maybe they'll pick up something that I'm not aware of.

I have exactly the same problem,
Purple tint while capturing HDMI signal from the Cable Box using BM Mini Recorder.
But,!
Using the Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0 HDMI to capture the same signal works just fine!

Hi all.
I have a similar problem.

The setup I have is:
Panasonic AG-AC90 -> HDMI -> Aputure VS-3 (monitor) -> HDMI -> Ultra Studio MiniRecorder -> Thunderbolt -> Mac.

And the picture I get in the Mac is purple tinted.
If I skip the MiniRecorder and connect directly to a monitor the picture is fine.
This is a big problem, I got the monitor to use then I livestream be course the built in monitor in the camera is to small and not correct colours.
I have tried changing cables but it didn't help either.
