Floating License?

We have Resolve Lite installed on multiple assistant machines for dailies processing, and we just got the full version in our color grading suite.

We need to create tons of 2K DPX frames for a project (30 min worth), so I was hoping the dongle could "float" from the grading suite to an assistant machine and unlock the full version without having to uninstall, then install the Full, and vice-versa when we're done.

Can the LITE and FULL versions co-exist on the same system? I could do an alternate boot drive if necessary, I suppose... Or could the FULL version be install on a portable drive and float with the dongle to other systems if necessary?

Lite and full versions cannot be installed on the same system simultaneously.

You can certainly move the dongle to other systems that have the full version installed.

But you can't move the dongle to a Lite system and have full version functionality. You would need to install the full version software for that. Then reinstall Lite if you wanted to use that system without the dongle later.

The ultimate situation for the future would be to have the same install for lite and full. When dongle isn't present you get the option to run it as lite. Somewhat like Nuke and NukeX works today. Floating license with a server license would also be sweet.

Yeah - that would be ideal. I try not to complain much about free software, though... Re-installing the LITE version as needed is far better than not having a LITE version. Thanks, Blackmagic!

not to dredge up an old thread, but would like to add a +1 on this since I'm after the same thing.

we have a shared color station that is also an edit station, but for non-client sessions, I'd love to use my workstation that's in another room and have the ability to move the resolve license between my workstation and the dedicated color/edit suite, which would release that room to the editors.

Try this for the heck of it. Install the Lite Version and then go to the Applications Folder and add Lite to the end of "DaCinci Resolve" like "DaVince Resolve Lite". Now install the Full Version and add "Full" to the end, I think that I did this once with Version 8 and it worked. The only issue is when you want to apply Resolve updates or uninstall a copy, you will have to temporarily rename them, uninstall, apply the update and rename them again.
