Control focus via Bluetooth

PostMon Aug 10, 2020 7:36 pm

Hi there,

I'm developing an electronic device to control my BMPCC 6k via Bluetooth. Aperture, shutter, ISO and so on work quite nicely. Relative focus and instant AF work as well. But unfortunately I am unable to set an absolute focus position.

The reference manual (camera control - developer information - Oct. 2018) states that I can set the focus using ID 0.0 and passing the focus as a fixed16 data type (being 0.0 = near and 1.0 = far). However doing so the camera does not react. Not at all. The only way I can change the focus is relative to its current position.

I tested with different lenses, original Canon and other manufacturers. No luck. What do I have to do to set an absolute focus position? Is it possible at all?

Best regards,
Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang,

Unfortunately, this is a limitation of the lens itself and not something that we can change/implement in the camera.
  • EF lenses (used for the BMPCC6K) use relative focus position only.
  • MFT lenses (used for the BMPCC4K) use absolute focus position only.
