BMDCapure - Output and watch raw data stream?

PostWed Aug 27, 2014 1:20 am

I'm running a little project. I'm trying to transcode an HDMI stream for two devices, my desktop computer and my mobile phone.

Is it possible to use bmcapture to output two streams, one raw data stream I can view on my desktop in VLC and one stream I can transcode with ffmpeg for my phone?

I haven't looked at bmdcapture for a while but, from memory, it doesn't support multiple outputs. With a bit of coding effort, that wouldn't be too hard to arrange though. In the meantime you could look at having VLC itself do what you want since I think its able to transcode and stream out while simultaneously displaying on screen whatever its capturing.

Thanks for the reply.

I'll probably use ffmpeg to transcode two outputs.

I've been using VLC for the past year or so and thought I'd try bmdcapture as vlc offers limited command line options with x264.

BMDCapture + FFMpeg actually uses a lot less CPU than VLC.
