Ultrastudio SDI (USB 3.0) RGB video output fails

PostWed Apr 15, 2015 6:07 pm

Hello everybody,

I recently noticed issues when trying to output video frames to an Ultrastudio SDI (USB 3.0) device using the DeckLink SDK in Windows (other OSes not yet tested).
The video output works successfully for bmdFormat8BitYUV in all resolutions, but for e.g. bmdFormat8BitBGRA or bmdFormat10BitRGB and resolutions other than PAL/NTSC even the CreateVideoFrame call fails.
I know that the Ultrastudio SDI does not support these RGB formats natively (and therefore also the DoesSupportVideoMode calls are only returning bmdDisplayModeNotSupported for all resolutions with those formats). However, in the 10.4 SDK it is mentioned, that "Note: If a pixel format is not natively supported in the card’s hardware it will be converted by software." (2.5.3.1 IDeckLinkOutput::DoesSupportVideoMode method). And this already worked with other hardware like the DeckLink SDI/Mini Monitor for a long time now.
The installed driver version is 10.4 and the problem could also be reproduced using the 10.4 SDK example "SignalGenerator": choosing RGB10Bit as output pixel format and e.g. 1080p24 as resolution, no output is generated.

Any help to solve these issue would be appreciated.

Best regards,
Matthias Martin
