Internal keyer and channels on Decklink Quad 2

PostThu Sep 24, 2015 10:52 am

Hello everyone,

Wondering about the new Decklink Quad 2:

- Does it support internal keying?

- Can it run 4 channels simultaneously, with different keying on each channel?
(meaning each of the 4 inputs linked to its own output, and with internal keying applied)

- Any delay on output relative to input?

Thank you!

Hello Gard
The card has been announced but it is not shipping yet (not released to customers).

Officially the techs specs allow 4 channels of full duplex input and output and 4 other channels that can be configured per below tech spec.

allows 4 independent capture and playback channels but now also includes 4 extra channels that developers can use for configuring the card in any combination of up to 8 capture or 8 playback channels

It does support internal keying up the stated frame rate of 1080p60. We are also working on external keying to support fill and key like the Extreme series. As we get closer to shipping the product, we will provide more details via our developer forum.

Delay will be similar to the new full duplex architecture of Decklink cards released in 2014 and 2015. That delay is one to two frames depending on processing and programming paradigms. (the full duplex cards are the cards named Decklink model name and 4K in it.)

Internal(!) keying with the DeckLink 4K cards has one or two frames of delay? Even if you don't do any up- or downscaling nor color conversion? That's a bummer. :( (In particular because the old DeckLink HD Extreme (2/3) cards had far less than one frame of delay when only doing internal keying - at least as far as I know.)

Hello again,

After long delay the Quad 2 is now again a good candidate for a project we have.

Has it been confirmed what kind of latency internal keying will cause?

Thinking to use the card as follows:

HD-SDI camera 1 ===> Quad2 port 1&2 ===> HD-SDI 1 with overlay
HD-SDI camera 2 ===> Quad2 port 3&4 ===> HD-SDI 2 with overlay
HD-SDI camera 3 ===> Quad2 port 5&6 ===> HD-SDI 3 with overlay
HD-SDI camera 4 ===> Quad2 port 7&8 ===> HD-SDI 4 with overlay

(different overlay/keying on each channel!)

Also when searching for QUAD2 on this forum, it seems to pop up a lot of problems related to firmware upgrades and "bricked" / dead cards.

Is this card currently unstable or has the firmware problems been fixed?

Anyone has positive experiences with the card? (guess mostly those who have negative experiences are writing here... so will be good to get a more ballanced view!)

Thank you!

Gard
