4k silence

PostWed Sep 25, 2013 11:43 am

4sept = "It's taking a bit longer than we expected to do this and we think its going to take about 3 to 4 weeks more to get those changes done and to get the QA process completed before we can start shipping."

So, how is it going? If we can thrust.

Website went from july to August to september and for sure to oktober.

4 times.... Come on.. Feels like you playing with us.. You must have known then that it would take longer time. The big question is, do you know now? Or are we facing another of your "3 top 4 more weeks"?

Blackmagic offers me the camera of my dreams, at a price I can afford. And for that I am grateful. I do not care if there is delay. If you do not like the product, just buy another.

We are all anxious to have 4k camera in our hands. But we have to relax, and wait. With these characteristics and that price there is nothing on the market. Have you considered the option 2.5K?

I have. And would gladly buy it. I could give bm half a year with the 4k only if they told us so. Then i would buy 2.5 and use that until the 4k came out.

However, would the 4k come as promised, or just after it would be a bit boring, hehe. The prices in Scandinavia is a bit higher. The 4k for 3995 $ is 5500 $ in Scandinavia. Offcourse it is still a good price. But it is still some money... Make sence?

Actually, they've changed the ship date twice so far. In July they changed it to August and in August they changed it to September. So far they have not announced another delay and it's still September.

My reseller sent me an email today forwarding an email by Blackmagic about shipping in Europe. They said the 4K camera "should start shipping in a couple of weeks or so".

In the same email, they say the the Pocket Camera should start shipping in bigger quantities in 2-3 weeks or so.

Of course there is a moment in the email where the BM representative states "I can't be much more precise". haha.

Let's see!

this answer has nothing to do with the topic...but that respond of "if you don't like it, buy another thing..." is quite annoying....I mean.....are you 5 years old or what???

We can complain as costumers we are and if they promise something they must fulfill it. If they don't ,then don't get angry by people reminding you what you have done. Simple as that, so people be more matture and act like an adult.

Hello Jesus. Have misinterpreted my words. It is not my intention to annoy. The 5 years and mature so if that can be interpreted badly.
Hola Jesus. Has interpretado mal mis palabras. No es mi intención molestar. Lo de los 5 años y madurar eso si que se puede interpretar muy mal. ;)

I know this topic is in regards to the camera but in order to streamline the cinematography forum, I'm moving this to off topic section.

The lack of customer service is not surprising given that this is a launch and still a relatively new realm of hardware, but as much as I "can't wait" for this camera it's clear that 4k and a decent feature set won't win in the indie cinematography market going forward -- but customer service will, including listening to customers AND communicating product news, updates and especially delays and launch dates for committed buyers.

My vendor told me that in his last communication with BMD he was informed it will ship late December or early January. This was about 3 weeks ago.

Do you think they're going for replaced sensors to match the prepro sensors? Seems long time for calibration?

Here is a quote from the e-mail he sent me

Good thing is there fixing and finalizing all the errors they have with the camera currently.... Bad thing is, I just got off the phone with my head rep over at Blackmagic and they were telling me that these cameras are not going to available till December possibly January.

However, I called and spoke to him directly and he said something to the extent that they were redoing a lot of stuff, but it's been a while since I talked to him and I can't quite remember the details. What I got from the conversation though, was that BMD is taking as long as necessary to fix whatever needs to be done and he speaks very highly of BMD service. My past experiences with BMD bears that out as well.

I am glad I just really started getting passionate about film lately.. Jumping on the end of this long wait, basically I'm waiting for my new Mac Pro in December to setup my editing station so I guess timing will be close hopefully. Looking forward to seeing the final product and the quality.

Sorry to hear about all the people waiting since June and not getting answers often

I'll be waiting even longer than you guys.

I want the BMPC 4k with the mft mount.

The first release is with the Canon mount only.

I'll wait.

You will wait forever since an MFT mount will never cope with the S35 sensor size BM is using on their 4K camera. MFT bayonet diameter It's too short sized for that.

Yes, after talking with with tech support guy, I've realized this and am now requesting a version with a Sony E-mount (NEX) instead of Canon EOS.

I've been using the fs-100 for some time now and already have several E-mount adapters. Love the fs100 but I want to move up to the BMPC's global shutter and 4k resolution.

Here's hoping

Quite a while ago, there was interest in providing a PL mount for the production camera. BMD made no commitment to support PL, but they are well aware of the interest expressed by John Brawley among others.
