Which Sekonic Light Meter?

PostSat Mar 09, 2024 7:21 pm

Hey,

I am looking for some recommendations.
Should I buy the Sekonic L-308S or the Sekonic L-508?

I photograph digital and on 35mm film. I also make short films with my bmpcc 4k. (I don't own lights)

The 508, maybe? I do like having spot reading capabilities both stills and cine use. I have a 308, and also carry a spot meter. You'd have both in one.

Is the spot metering function on the L-508 the same as if I were using a digital camera with a zoom lens and taking readings from specific areas of the image?

If your camera have spot metering yes.
Otherwise you really need to zoom into "a spot" as the camera will do some kind of average or program metering.

I have Gossen meter without spot but with cine function although I shoot more still - 135 and 120 format - then I do film.
