Resolve used on Tangerines, nominated for Oscar

PostFri Jan 16, 2015 4:33 pm

I was lucky to work on a feature that got selected Oscar for Foreign Language Film shortlist.

Project was offlined on fcp and later conformed on
Mac Pro in DaVinci Resolve 9. Edit was given to me as 5 separate rolls
but to have better understanding on the whole material i decided to go
on full length timeline. Worked out surprisingly well considering how
weak system we had for grading job. In media pool we had 3TB worth of material if my memory is not lying to me now. As you see from the specs machine was really modest. Can it be done like this? Yes. Would faster machine made it better experience. Of course. BM Ultrascope was use with that project.

As it was shot in prores then all the light changes caused big shifts in color in some shots from normal to super strong blue cast. Finally i managed to balance them out more or less but still bothers me a lot in my mind. If any on set wb in timely manner would have been done
the results would be better in my mind.

Did i learn anything from that job?
A ton of experience. Specially for feature related job as it has
totally different needs and requirements compared to some TV commercial jobs i do.

So it is not so much dependent on your system how you result on your job. Sure good gear helps you be faster but operating it properly also is important part and understanding all the details and aspects.

Not there yet as the feature is just one of the five finalists on its class but being a bit proud also that i could give my small contribution to this feature.

GTX 285

Fantastic work. Congratulations! Just watched the trailer and I'm hooked - can't wait to see the entire film.
