I know there aren't a lot of us but I'd definitely like to see a forum for Cintel users. There are some issues that need to be resolved (ha!) and information can be streamlined on here.

Hello,

I have recently purchased a Cintel Scanner with 35mm and 16mm gates.
I need tips on scanning with EDL. Also if i need to add frame handle to scanning, how can i do that?

Thanks

Satyam Raj

I am somewhat disappointed with the resolution.
Is it possible to adjust the sensor in the Cintel so that it is true 4k and extract the audio by other means?
I would think the resolution is prime real estate. I plan to scan silent movies, so having the film under 4k in order to extract the audio via DaVinci Resolve is needless to say, unnecessary.
I also heard that scanning from the emulsion of the film tends to be sharper. Just reverse (mirror) footage in post.

I'm not entirely following, the scanner runs at full res whenever you run it unless it's at a smaller format like 16mm, you crop whatever part of the image is sprockets and frame so you have more real estate when there's no audio. The audio is extracted afterwards so having a film with or without audio has no effect on the capture process. And it's always a good idea to scan emulsion side up, also because you don't want the emulsion to run on the sprocket wheels surface.

I second on the cintel Forum.

Our cintel is due in January and especially after seeing the demo last week, prior to purchase, I'll bet there will be a lot of questions coming up.

hi everybody,

i do have the pleasure to work with the scanner since end of 2016.
such a complex process deffinetly needs its own forum. there are many small but also some major topics to talk about.

cheers

I agree completely.

In the meantime, I guess maybe we just post questions here and help each other out, or start a thread in the Post Production section.

Hello everybody,

I've been working with the scanner for a while now in my archive and didn't have a problem with the its range, but now i came across a bunch of original b&w negative that have to be scanned cause of the vinegar syndrome. My problem is that i can't seem to catch the whole dynamic range of the material. Either the highlight or the shadows get clipped. I know i can bring back about 10% of the highlights back in the color page but it is definitely not enough. I was wondering if anyone had similar difficulties, any input would help....

We definitely underline your proposal to have a specific Cintel Scanner forum to exchange our experiences.

Assuming that this could be a software topic I posted a message on the Cintel Scanner resolution issue in the according forum. Please find the post here: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=86962&p=483879&hilit=cintel#p483879

New owner of a Cintel 1. Would love a place to get advice and let BMD know what we'd like in future updates!

I am considering a purchase. Would love to have had a forum to better understand the product. Another vote for a Cintel forum!
