M.2 Update

Why Blackmagic is not using M.2 directly?
right now i am using
1)Videotech CFAST to sata (while using on GIMBAL)
2)BM's SSD recorder (blocks port)6G SDI to SATA

both are not directly storing instead of these if BM give direct M.2 bay user will insert one samsung 970 pro in which we can record loseless 4.6K 60p

so please update this feature in next camera
expecting in resolution increase too (6K)
also body design change (monitor from left to top )

what i mean is, if they provide a bay through which the M.2 drive insert into camera in their next model.

after ejecting the drive we can copy using the StarTech M.2 SATA Enclosure USB 3.1


by this we can record 4.6k lossless 120p also which will be not possible for other models

and also camera can provide usb c port to ssd recording option which was included in pcc 4k

I would want to have a drive holder with different connector before I would say this is a good idea.

But once you make a more robust connector for drive "sled" and dock, then I'd be all for it. The price of certain types of fast media cards is pretty close to the price of an M.2 (or NVMe) drive of similar size.

The problem with using a bare M.2 is the plating on the connector, it just isn't formulated or plated thick enough for multiple insert/remove cycles. The gold on SD cards is typically a harder alloy and typically several microns thicker than what is often used on card edge connectors. Other factors like the spring rate of he connector fingers come into play where it can lose the pressure after XX cycles.

I would guess that most NVMe connectors are rated at 100 cycles or less, they just aren't designed to be ripped out very often.
