Crucial MX500 Won't Mount

Hi,

I"m a 1st AC that just bought a used Hyperdeck Shuttle 2. I only want to use it for playback to see shots I've done so recording is not the most important issue as only sometimes I watch takes on playback. So I bought the Hyperdeck Shuttle 2. I tested it when I purchased it off the original owner who owned some old SSD and it worked with them.

I proceeded to purchase a Crucial MX500 updated the Hyperdeck and formatted the drive EXFAT (I also tried Mac OS journaled and same issue won't mount) and I'm finding the Hyperdeck won't find the SSD drive. Am I doing anything wrong, and if I am, what current SSD drives can I buy that works with the Hyperdeck Shuttle 2, as I checked the list and all the ones on there are discontinued.

I just spent a week trying to get 2 of those exact SSDs to format but I was working other issues, Win10 hard crashed, motherboard old with issues but I'm on Linux.

Other may mention BIOS settings that I'm not an expert on but let them know some machine and BIOS specifics, if you're on Windows or what?

They mentioned to me UEFI, Legacy, security set up in BIOS etc, but give them something to go on.

My last 2 weeks converting my "good riddance Win10" over to Linux Mint was so rough I don't know what all I did but you can get those Crucial Drives running on anything with probably one tip from someone here.

Hi Chris, that seems to be a firmware issue of the later Hyperdeck Shuttle updates.
You can downgrade the firmware (and won’t miss any features afaik).

I have the same setup like you.

I’ll have to check which had been the last firmware working with those SSDs and will update here.

Can you specify the exact Crucial MX500 model you have?

Have found the firmware - it is HyperDeck Utility 4.1

Any newer version (4.2 and up) seems to break the ability of the Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 to recognize most SSDs.

I saw that I mixed up the Crucial naming scheme, had a much older Crucial SSD model for the HyperDeck than yours but several of the 4 TB MX500 for my PC.

Anyway - you can't break anything with that downgrade, but there might be a chance that your MX500 still won't work.

EDIT:
I tested it with my MX500 4TB SSD but alas it did not recognize it - probably because 4TB can't use MBR but GPT - but could also be that the MX500 series does not work with that old HyperDeck Shuttle 2.
