intensity extreme - 10bit hdmi?

PostMon Mar 31, 2014 4:28 pm

hello everyone,
i already have a thunderbolt intensity extreme card, the new imac, and the davinci 10 software.
im about to buy a panasonic plasma (vt 60).
thats gonna be my starter set. i know and i'm okay with the limitations of the plasma, but my question would be the following:
- will i get true 10bit signal via HDMI from the intensity extreme?
- or would be an sdi connection better in any terms of picture quality (for example a blackmagic ultrastudio 4K + a broadcast panasonic plasma that could be connected via HD-SDI)

thanks a lot,
gabor

The Intensity Extreme doesn't have any SDI connections so I'm a bit confused as to what exact product you're referring to.

He's asking if he gets a 10 bit output through HDMI on the Extreme or if he has to buy something else like the Ultrastudio 4K and use SDI to get 10bit

Ah, thanks for that clarification.

It will not pass 10bit.

Tony, would it be possible to get better clarification on the website on which cards do do 10 bit as it's very confusing, there's no real info on what does and does not do 10bit in and out. All it would need is a note in the tech specs to say '8 bit' or '8 bit, 10 bit' etc

1080i50.
i dont know if 10bit 4:4:4 would be necessary, or 4:2:2 is enough
will i (and clients) see the difference?

If I remember correctly the TB Shuttle gives 10bit out through HDMI @1080i50, it just when you go up to 1080p50 that you need higher end devices.
You might want to contact your local BM tech support direct to find out if the Extreme gives 10bit out as there's nothing on the website about it which is why I asked Tony if they could add it to the 'Tech specs' page to make things clearer for people

What about the Ultra Studio mini-monitor? 10-bit through HDMI? The web info is confusing.

B&H says it's 10-bit 4:2:2 over HDMI -- is that true?

thx Adbear,
one of my prev posts just lost in the moderation queue.
i mentioned that the intensity extreme is listed as 10bit device on every dealer's page (e.g. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/824118-REG/Blackmagic_Design_BINTSTBEXT_Intensity_Extreme_HDMI_and.html)

do i need 4:4:4, or 4:2:2 is enough? knowing that broadcast media delivery format is 4:2:2.
