DeckLink Quad 2 problem

PostMon Jun 26, 2017 5:58 am

Assembling a high-end I7 system to run V-mix. Planning on using NDI for most camera inputs, but including a BMD DeckLink Quad 2 to input legacy SDI video. Everything seems to work OK until we plug in the DeckLink Quad 2 board. At that point: (1) the ability to stream (receive) video from YouTube or Vimeo simply hangs DEAD. (2) And even playing a local MP4 video file is slow and stuttering when played with Win10 Video player, or Windows Media Player. And sometimes (!) using VLC player.

Inputting video from an SDI source into V-mix with the DeckLink Quad 2 appears to work OK, despite the other symptoms. Unplugging the DeckLink Quad 2 board returns other video problems mentioned above back to normal.

Yes, we are running the latest drivers for the DeckLink Quad 2 board (Desktop Video 10.9.3), and the latest drivers for the video card (Asus-branded NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB) 21.21.13.7878 as identified by Windows Device Manager.

You might need to check the PCI slot configuration of your motherboard. Check that the Decklink card is not sharing same PCI lanes as the video card (can force the video card down to 8 lanes).
Also best to have a 2011-3 socket MB which has more PCI lanes (up to 40) rather than 115x MB's that only have 16.

Thank you, @Ian Morrish. We have finally got back to the project and we have tried every possible combination and discovered that NONE of them work.

We have:
[*] ASUS X99-A/USB 3.1 ATX DDR4 3300 (o.c.) Intel LGA 2011 Motherboard
[*] ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Dual-fan OC Edition VR Ready Dual HDMI DP 1.4 Gaming Graphics Card (DUAL-GTX1060-O6G)
[*] Intel Gigabit CT PCI-E Network Adapter EXPI9301CTBLK
[*] Blackmagic Design DeckLink Quad 2 SDI interface card.

No matter which slots we plug these various components, the system works fine until we plug in the Quad 2 card.

At this point it appears that we abandon hopes of using the Quad 2 card. As @SebastianLong has asked in another thread ("Decklink Quad 2, suggested/tried-and-tested motherboard", as yet un-answered), we have no guidance for what motherboard, graphics board, etc. etc. are compatible with DeckLink Quad 2. Since there are essentially an infinite number of combinations of motherboards and graphics cards which may or may not be compatible with the Quad 2, and since none of us customers have infinite resources to conduct this research, we are dependent on Blackmagic to provide some help with this problem. Absent that, the Quad 2 looks like a good idea in the laboratory, but isn't working out here in the Real World.

Does ANYBODY actually have a Quad 2 working in their system? What motherboard? What graphics card?

It works for me on an ASUS Z170-A motherboard running Windows 10, but I've never used more than 4 or 5 inputs at once, all HD-SDI.

Thank you, @Jack Fairley
So it appears that you are using the built-in graphics on your ASUS Z170-A motherboard. Perhaps that is why it is working (not competing with an external high-end graphics card).

We are wanting to use Vmix and need the high-end graphics to handle all the video processing for the software-based video production system.

No, using a GTX 1060. I have another system with the 12G Decklink card and a GTX 1080, using the ASUS PRIME Z270-A motherboard.
