Help Needed with Intensity Shuttle for Thunderbolt

Just recently purchased Intensity Shuttle for Thunderbolt™. My original goal: to dub VHS tapes onto my iMac desktop (&/or ext hard drive). Thought it was gonna be a cinch to just hook up & get started immediately. I no longer think so...
Hoping someone (with spare time) wouldn't mind explaining how to properly & efficiently accomplish my goal successfully (necessary required equipment & downloads, setup steps 1,2,3,4, etc) as opposed to me explain the things I've done unsuccessfully followed by you explaining the proper setup procedure anyway. Whichever way is easier or preferred.
Could anyone please help or point me to a topic which would resolve all my setup issues which I may have or will encounter while setting up
