Decklink 8k Pro on M.2 slot

PostSat Oct 12, 2019 1:11 pm

Hi,
I have a question and I don't find anywhere an exhaustive answer
it's about a number of lanes needed for the decklink 8k pro to work properly

I'm trying to assemble a small workstation for live graphics, fill+key for two indipendent channel (4 sdi)
I have an Hades Canyon with integrate/discrete GPU and I like to mount a decklink 8k pro to the m.2 slot

now, m.2 slot is a 4 lane and the 8k pro needs 8 lanes

the question is, can I run the 8k pro with half lanes, obviusly at a lower resolution, or it don't work at all?

theoretically speaking the bandwith is enough for 4k or lower resolutions
and it's almost the same of thunderbolt 3

[of course I can buy a duo 2 without any problem with lanes, but for a small difference in price I prefer a 8k pro, even if I really don't need it at the moment]

thank you very much

The decklink 8K pro has even issues to run proper with 4x 12G on a heavy duty machine with plenty of lanes.

When you put it on a 4 lane, i guess it won't even start up properly or the software says your card is faulty.

I think it is not worth the hassle.. ;)

I haven't tried the 8K Pro, but I've tried the Quad 2 in a system with insufficient lanes. The card would either not work at all, or be missing random channels. I don't recommend it!

Very interesting, can I ask you what resolution?
and how many of the 8 channels you were trying to use
thanks

Didn't matter, this happened without any video inputs connected.
