Multidock 10g adapted to Thunderbolt 2?

PostTue Nov 19, 2019 6:15 am

Hi there, is anyone successfully using a Multidock 10g (with the USB-c ports) via and adapter to a computer fitted with Thunderbolt 2 ports. Looking around Internet forums it's still unclear to me if if the "USB-C" ports are actually Thunderbolt 3 or not.

Hello Nick. The USB-C is a connector and doesn't define which type or signal capability is available. On most computers, there will be a logo like USB or the Thunderbolt to define the type of signal is supported. Otherwise, you would need to look at the motherboard specifications to know. The Multidock 10G requries a Thunderbolt 3 connection for all of the supported functionality. A TB2 to TB3 adaptor will not provide this. Also a Thunderbolt Cable and not a USB Cable even if it has the same connectors. This is understandable confusion of course.
