Intensity shuttle setup with Canon VIXIA HF R400

PostSat Sep 28, 2013 5:14 pm

I using Mac Mini computer and Intensity Shuttle with Thunderbolt connection. I want to get the video/audio from my Canon HF R400 into Flash Media Live Encoder or Wirecast to stream live. I've been trying to set up the HDMI connection and getting only a black screen in the encoders. My camera outputs either AVCHD or MP4. I've read a number of posts that say to use 1180i 59.94. I've tried many settings and nothing seems to work.
How do I get video/audio from my camera to the Mac with the Encoders?

The Intensity Shuttle works with my Sony HD Bloggie camcorder with NTSC/PAL 8 or 10 bit, connected with HDMI cable.
I can't figure out how to make the Canon HF R400 connect with the same HDMI cable.

Thanks, Adbear. It's not looking good for this camera and the Blackmagic shuttle. My years-old and cheap Sony Bloggie camera works, apparently because it sends 1080i. The new Canon HF R400 must be sending 1080p.
The problem with the Bloggie for this purpose is that it automatically shuts off after an interval not recording. There doesn't seem to be any option to turn off the auto shut-down with the Bloggie.

There are settings on the Canon 60p, MSP, FXP, LP. The first 60p won't run, greyed out. It's difficult to know what the others are sending.

I gave up on this camera because the settings are indecipherable. But I was able to get the results I wanted. See related post: http://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=13667
