HyperDeck Shuttle 2: odd cropping with SD "NTSC" source

PostSun Oct 06, 2013 3:50 am

Hi all. I'm capturing from the SDI output of a DPS-470AV being fed both composite and S-Video NTSC signals.

The problem I'm having is that this setup captures far too many lines from the top of the 525-line signal (far into the vertical blanking interval), causing the bottom of the active picture area to be cropped off since the frame is limited to 720x486. For reference, I turned on two Vertical Interval Test Signals in line 16 of each field.

My understanding is that the device sending out the SDI signal outputs all 525 lines (active + blanking), and then the HyperDeck chooses 486 of them to grab and place into the MOV container on the disk. The tech specs seem to confirm that since it says "525/29.97 NTSC" for SD format support. Is that correct?

I don't see options on either device to move the image up or down, and I don't have any other SDI sources to test.
