Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 will not record

I am having trouble getting started with a new Hyperdeck Shuttle 2. I have my camera connected to the deck via HDMI. When I insert my SSD (Intel 335 Series 240GB SSD (SSDSC2CT240A4K5)) into the deck, the red SSD light comes on and never shuts off the way the manual says it is supposed to. I press record, but nothing happens. Any ideas?

have you formatted the drive? What format? Have you upgraded the firmware on the Hyperdeck?
