auto focus & iris not working - do I need a SSD card?

PostTue Oct 22, 2013 3:45 pm

Auto focus and auto iris not working.

I just received my BMCC EF yesterday and I have put 2 EF lenses on it. But I can't figure out how to make the iris and focus work (I can focus manually)

Before I go any further; the SSD I ordered will not arrive until tomorrow - Does the camera need the SSD installed for the auto focus and iris to work?

The lenses I have are the Canon EFS 18-55. I think it came with my original Rebel (Digital Rebel version 1)
and a Sigma 70-300 - from about the same era - about 5 -7 years ago maybe?

(I just received a new Canon 60D also and on it both of the lens work fine)

Do I need the SSD for those functions to work... or am I missing something?

Thanks!

My understanding is that no, you don't need a SSD to focus. The other part is that I don't believe there is auto focus on the BMCC from my limited usage of the camera. If I'm incorrect, I'm sure someone here on the forums will correct me. ;)

I know there is not on the MFT... maybe there isn't on the EF either.

The camera is so basic and the manual so short. It's hard to imagine I missed somethng.

I think I'm supposed to push the iris button and it should adjust the exposure - and if I want to adjust the iris manually - I use the fast forward and reverse buttons...

I hope I didn't get a defective cameara :?

Oh, and thanks for the reply! :D

The way I control the Iris is by pressing the menu up and menu down buttons.

Other function that are not obvious unless you read the manual are:

- double click on focus will enable focus peaking
- double click on "ok" will zoom in for more accurate focus

The auto focus works by pressing the focus button once but I suggest you first activate the focus peaking in order to see the difference.

The auto iris works by pressing the iris button once. Point to camera towards a dark area and press it then point the camera towards a very light area and press it again to see the aperture change.

No you do not, there is no menu arrows on the BMCC :)

Iris is one push for auto adjust.

The focus button turns on Focus peeking, nothing ellse.

To zoom in for focus, doubble tap the screen.
Shooting for fun.
