Thunderbolt + Display (with UltraStudio Mini / Intensity)

PostTue Oct 16, 2012 2:46 pm

Hello,
I would like to capture HD videos, but at the same time still be able to use an external Display for my Software on a MacBook Pro (no retina). There are e.g. thunderbolt devices as the Ultrastudio Mini or Intensity Shuttle. But if you plug them in, the thunderbolt chain is terminated, so no DisplayPort-Adapter can be plugged in.

What would be a solution?
- There are no acceptable thunderbolt hubs on the market.
- Intensity Shuttle USB3 (to free thunderbolt) doesn't work on a mac.
- Can I output through the Intensity Shuttle my Mac Screen via HDMI, or is HDMI out only passthrough?

Why is there no daisy chain capability for Blackmagic thunderbolt products - I thought that would be the great advantage?

Thank you very much for your help!

As for why, this is not really a black and white answer. Design decision is the simplest.

Alternatively adding the daisy chain is both more complicated and more expensive (for time and components). So we've opted to make our devices end points.

Short of having a machine with two tunderbolt ports this is not going to be possible.
