Hyperdeck - did you know...

PostSun Oct 28, 2012 12:46 am

Interesting thing about the Hyperdecks SSD - The spec says about 50 min uncompressed record time on a 512g SSD. That is based on 1080 59i format recording.

Did you know that at 1080 50i you actually get 61 mins uncompressed on a 512g SSD!

As with tape, a Sony 60 min HDCAM @ 50i actually goes 01:18:45 and a Sony 120 min HDCAM @ 50i goes 02:31:02.

Us folk in 50i land sure do get it good! ;)

And your point is?

Uncompressed is uncompressed. If you want uncompressed you takes what you get and pays the price.

If you want compressed (well... a little) then you choose DNxHD or ProRes and gets 4x the space.

Hopefully one of these days they will implement a more compressed option. They have confirmed the Hyperdeck Studio is capable of handling more compression... so it's just a matter of getting them to add that to their list of things to do for their adoring fans.

Of course one is going to get more duration out of 50i compared to 60i, that's simple math. Those 10 extra scans per second are going to add up after a while.

EXACTLY!!
And my point (which was obvious I thought) is at a marketing level - most other manufactures would market it as "60 mins uncompressed record time" but BMD marketed it as 'worse case scenario' which is a sign of honesty.
Get it...

You are just too clever for the rest of us Baz. Even though - the use of BOLD throughout the entirety of your posts... we should have figured nothing less.
