Balanced audio input, Decklink Studio Card as a mic input

PostThu Nov 01, 2012 12:58 am

is it reasonably possible to use the balanced audio input on the Decklink card as a microphone input for another program(video conferencing) The audio ouputs of decklink card are available in the 3rd party program but the inputs are not. Would this be something they'd have to work into their software?

Currently going from a balanced system through a matching transformer to the mic input of the computer.

Thanks,

It should be possible, but as you indcate, it requires some programming to open the input channel(s) to video conferencing system.

Note though that if your microphone requires phantom power, Decklink Studio can not provide it!

I do not agree. Microphone level is somewhere at -60dB, where the balaced line in is +4 or +6dB. So what you get is a lot of noise. There are microphone preamps from various brands, that do the amification, phantom power, equalization etc. and don't cost a fortune.

Thanks for the input guys

we're taking balanced mic inputs to an audio mixer and feeding it back out at line level.

after talking with some people I think it might be a decklink issue, Windows doesn't see the decklink as a valid audio input source. Works great for feeding it HDSDI as a source for video conference systems and as an output for sound. Currently going to a transformer to go from balanced to unblanced mic input on the onboard audio card.

the aja counterpart to the decklink card installs and is recognized as a valid input and output point.
at $1400 more I can deal with using a line matching transformer for the mic input.
