mbp running mac osx 10.6.8 and ultrastudio express

recenty i bought BM Ultrastudio Express and tried to connect with my MBP running 10.6.8 os.On the thunderbolt tab inside system profiler, there's no thunderbolt device detected.

Should I upgrade to lion os for this to work ?

another issue is, after upgraded to latest lion os, my ultra studio express still not detected.

Is it normal if I connect ultra studio expree via thunderbolt, it powers by itself ? Mine is just do nothing ? Is it i got faulty unit or the 2 meter thunderbolt cable is broken ?

update

Turns out that I got a faulty unit, returned to local dealer and replaced with new one

Now it's working with my Mac Mini i5.

Already stream component / analog capture to Telestream Wirecast -> wowza media server

On my MBP 2011, I suspect the thunderbolt port is faulty ( even it worked with apple cinema display and hdmi out )
