Intensity Shuttle/Media Express does not pickup XBOX 1080P

PostSun Nov 11, 2012 1:20 pm

Hi All,

I'd like to ask about the following:

I have a XBOX 360 connected to a Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt, connected to a 2012 27" iMac. Although everything works, there is an issue I can't seem to resolve.

The problem is that I can't get the Black Media Express program to display a 1080p signal. It stops at 1080i, while all the hardware should be able to. When in Media Express / logging screen and I want to change the XBOX's settings to 1080p (it goes to 1080i by auto recognotion) screen goes black.

I have ensured that the setting in both Media Express and in System Prefs are 1080p (29.97).
To me, it seems that the XBOX wont recognize my Intensity/Mac as a 1080p enabled screen.

So why is this important? I'm trying to get the best possible screen grabs from my XBOX feed, for an art project. And with the 1080i signal I end up with lots of half-frame scanlines.

To cut this long story short: anybody know a solution?

Cheers,

Rob

I'd like to know if the following is correct:

Does my above mentioned problem exist because my XBOX uses 1080p60? And I've read somewhere on this forum that, and I quote, "that is not supported jet." ?

If so: I could not find any mention on when?

Cheers,

The Xbox supports the following resolutions:

640×480
848×480
1024×768
1280×720
1280×768
1280×1024
1360×768
1680x1050
1920×1080

however the xbox will boot up to the optimal resolution so it doesn't matter what the setting is when it is booted it runs auto detect through the HDMI cable. My issue is the Blackmagic intensity extreme wont work, it did work a couple days ago but its very intermittent with a power light on and the software running i will receive no image even with the latest drivers etc

As far as I'm aware, the XBox360 does do 1080p, but most games do not.

BF3, for example will do 720p or 1080i, but not 1080p. If the XBox is doing 1080p, games will be upscaled to 1080p, but look crap, due to the upscaling.

720p is _so_ much better than 1080i, so flick the XBox360 to 720p, flick Media Express to 720p59.94, and flick the Intensity to 720p29.97, and you should get a nice crisp image.

I think this is linked to the Shuttle not supporting 1080p60 video, which the Xbox displays while in "full HD" mode.

Switching to 720p should work under one of the FPS settings (59.9 or something?).

becsta thanks. turning to 720p seems to give a lot sharper images! Although I have to figure out the best way to enlarge them a lot, for purpose of wall hanging, that is something I had to resolve before this as well :).

Strange thing is that the capture screen gives a slightly more pixellated image but every grab I took so far looks much more crisp than there 1080i predecessors.

Gives a guy hope for the day that 1080p actually works. But I figure as much that nobody is able to tell when.. ?

Cheers!

although, 1080p would still be an up-scaled signal for 720p games. So maybe, all is well like it is ;)
