Windows 8 BSOD with Intensity Pro

PostWed Nov 21, 2012 2:38 am

So like the title says, I have a Blackmagic Intensity capture card which I sometimes use while working to output live TV to an external monitor.
I have had 4 BSOD in last 24 hrs.
The error says this (see attached pic)
The machine has been rock solid other than this. Ive done some pretty heavy After Effects work for hours on end with no crashes.
FWIW. I had a lot of trouble with Intel management interface drivers and eventually left them out. I have one PCI Simple Communications controller in Device Manager that has an exclamation mark, but other than that everything is working fine.
With the Intel drivers installed, Optimization would not work on the SSD, Explorer would hang then restart and the hard drives connected to the Intel ports would identify in device manager as jumbled messes of letters, weird stuff indeed.
Specs are-
3930k
Gigabyte X79 UD5
32gb 1600 Ram
GTX 580 3gb
Samsung 830 256gb SSD for system drve.
Error reports keep pointing to the Blackmagic card
Any thoughts/help greatly appreciated.

if you have the BSOD means that the PC is not working well you need to install drivers that are missing the PCI Simple Communications otherwise you can not make a judgment
I also have an Intensity Pro with win8 and it all works perfectly and never had BSOD

Thanks for getting back Serfon.
I would normally agree with you, but....
I have been running Windows 8 on another hard drive in the same PC, a WD Cavier Black 2gb. I used this to test it out before loading onto my SSD.
On this install there were no missing drivers.
I booted into this Windows 8 and opened Media Express and let it preview....
It lasted approx 30min and then blue screened with the same error. No other programs were running.
Just to be sure,
I grabbed my back up clone hard drive of my Windows 7 install and put it into one of my hot swap bays and booted into that.
Ran Media Express and let it preview.
4 hrs later still going strong.
I can only deduce that it is a Windows 8/ Blackmagic driver issue, at least on my machine.
Now how do I get some tech support?

9.6.8 drivers are the last perfectly compatible with win8
I suggest you install the drivers that you are missing PCI Simple Communications

Why move to Windows 8 so soon. Are you update happy just for fun. Editing machine only gets the OS when it is stable and that is at least 6months. Just go back to Win7 and have a peace of mind

I had that same issue on my P55 MB with Renesas USB3.0 and Win8 64. In my case I needed to update to the lastest BM Desktop 9.6.8. I also needed to download the latest USB 3.0 driver from Intel. The stock Win8 driver gave the BSOD, the updated Intel driver resolved the issue.

If your card is PCIe, you may want to make sure you have the very latest BIOS, Chipset, and other hardware drivers, and not depend on the stock Win8 drivers. If that does not work, uninstall the other boards you have on your system and in troubleshoot only with the intensity installed. If this works, put the back the others one at a time.

The driver version that is working on my system is:

Driver Providor: Renesas Electronics
Driver Date: 10/25/2011
Driver Version: 2.1.28.0

Intel provided updated driver:
