Recommendations for new user!

PostMon Oct 27, 2014 12:32 am

Hi all,

I've been doing a heap of reading, but still have a few questions before I start purchasing equipment.

I need to setup a basic livestream configuration that has two video feeds (one live video from a camera, the other is a feed from a laptop).

I'll be using a Lenovo W540 laptop work station as the broadcaster. Will have i7 and Quadro graphics card.

I'm looking at using 2 x Intensity Shuttle USB3 (will this A: work with the laptop and B: two devices at once).

This will be run up over livestream.com using LiveStream Studio.

Are there any better options for video input?

Regards,
Matt

Chances are you'll run into a bottle neck because with the USB portion as these devices are only meant to work one at a time and also the limitations of the laptop being able to have that much passing through them simultaneously.

In regards to the laptop working with the Shuttle, you can search for your model on the Livestream forums to see what others have found to work for this workflow.

Thanks Tony, the W540 also has a Thunderbolt port, I'm thinking of using one via Thunderbolt (or can I use two via a hub?) and one view USB3?

The Lenovo W530 looks to work with the shuttles so I'm confident the W540 should work now.

Two via a hub might also run you into some issues with the amount of data transferring over the connection. Something similar may occur with a Thunderbolt/USB3 combo as they may pull from the same resources. We don't do testing with multiple devices like this so maybe some other users here on the forums might be able to suggest another method.
