Intensity Extreme + PS3 + 27" New iMac

PostMon Dec 17, 2012 9:37 am

Hi Guys

Forgive my Newbie Status,

I Bought The Intensity Extreme To Use With My New 27" iMac (Which Arrived Today)

I've download and installed the latest Drivers for Mac (14th Jan Version)

I Get The White Thunderbolt Light So The Device Is Plugged In And Blackmagic Media Express sees the Device, however nothing from the PS3 when on Log & Capture.

I was also told i could press FN+2 to get the input on the iMac full screen which was my actual desire.

I've tried two HDMI cables
I've reset the PS3
I've set the PS3 to 720 manually
Set Media Express To 720 59.94 (As Per Many Articles)

What am I doing wrong?

I want to be able to press CMD+F2 and play my PS3 one my iMac display.

Thanks.

I am afraid that your iMac turns the HDCP on even when the content is not protected.
That is by default how Apple display adapters behave - there is no official explanation why.
HDCP is digital content protection scheme applied over HDMI connections.
When it is active, it disables digital recording.

You should try connecting PS3 using the analogue cable if you got one with the unit.
Intensity Extreme comes with analogue breakout connection cable, you can check connection diagram here:

I understand the OP wants to use the PS3 on the imac...
the PS3 has HDCP by default...
either you get some (redacted) HDCP (redacted)
or you use some analog output from the PS3
note, that the PS3 may also disable the analog output at anytime

Well, there's a couple things going on.

First to clarify. In this case HDCP is a problem, but it's not coming from the iMac.

With the retail version of the PS3 HDCP is on ALWAYS (the Xbox360 does not do this). So whether the dashboard is showing, gameplay or during media playback, the output of the PS3 is always encrypted. TLDR, you won't be able to capture HDMI output of a PS3.

So what people do in that case is to use the component output of the PS3 into the Intensity Extreme.

You should be able to use either 1080i59.94 or 720p59.94 (as you prefer) but you will also need to make sure your PS3 is set to the same resolution.

I hope that helps clarify.

note how
  • the person doesn't really show the entire path from the back of the Xbox 360 to the bmd converter
  • when you look at the video in hd, note the varied devices hiding behind the Xbos 360

this, for sure, looks like one of those (redacted) HDCP (redacted) gizmos (ow, frack, I said it) ;-)

Okay!

So, traded on Gumtree for a DVI+Audio ==> HDMI

I Finally (After Hours) Got A Picture, but only thru Black Magic Express

I had hoped to USE VLC as a capture for full screen

Any clues what program I can launch to use the Capture device and have fullscreen?
