Problems with Intensity Pro 4K and newer drivers

PostMon Aug 10, 2015 7:25 am

Good morning,

Since DeckLink I and the very first driver for Windows I've been a very happy customer of BMD. But lately this changed to the opposite when I tried to capture UHD video from the GH4 to MXF-wrapped DNxHR.

My first attempt was with an early version of the DeckLink 4K Extreme and an Asus P6T7 WS SuperComputer mainboard. I swapped between Windows 7 and 8.1, Quadro and GeForce cards, and tried (nearly) every combination of slots (and there were many!) but could not get it to work with any driver later than v9.9.6.

OK, I said to myself, this machine is simply too old and I built a new one based on an Intensity Pro 4K and a GigaByte GA-H97-HD3 mainboard. This time the task was simple: I put the Quadro card in the only x16 slot and the Intensity card in the only x4 slot. But the disappointment was big: With the newer drivers I only get FHD resolutions (albeit auto-detected!). For UHD I have to switch to v10.3.7. So no deep colour and no support for Avid MC 8.4.

Adam, you seem to be lucky with GigaByte mainboards, the Intensity Pro 4K, and v10.4.1 drivers. So what am I possibly doing wrong? Many, many thanks for any hints in the right direction! I'm a desperate man!

I too have this card installed on a Gigabyte Gaming 5 mATX board and it works fine. Try 10.4.2

Have you tried the new 10.4.3 drivers? The only just came out so I haven't had a chance to see if they fixed the GH4 and UHD issues yet.

Andre and Adam,

Thank you very much for your answers!

Today I tried the new v10.4.3 drivers but nothing has changed. The card auto-detects resolutions up to 1080p59.94 but with UHD there is only a black screen and no audio in Media Express. I really don't know what else to do. Maybe tomorrow I'll give Windows 10 a try but I have little hope.

Windows 10 won't make any difference, just have to wait for them to push out a driver that fixes it.

I'm having an interesting problem myself.

I just bought an Intensity Pro 4K yesterday (I've been working with the Intensity Pro line for four years). Dropped in into my system and went to install the latest release, 10.4.3 and ended up with a system crash with the message: SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED.

So, I'm thinking, let's run an SFC /SCANNOW on the installation (primary C) drive and see if there's some kind of problem. It finishes with the message:

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations

Now I'm "hrm...."

I did, however, notice the specs did say "High Speed PCI Express 4 lane connection"

Now, I don't have a PCIe 4.0 on the motherboard. Right now the physical card is installed in a PCIe 3.0 16 lane slot on an Asus Z87-Plus Motherboard.

This is a custom built PC, specs are:
Intel Core i7-4790K @4.00GHz
RAM: 32.0 GB
64-bit Windows 10 OS (x64-based processor)
NVIDIA Geforce 770GTX
4x 2TB 7200 hard drives
144mhz 1920x1080 3D ASUS monitor & 60mhz 1920x1080 ASUS monitor
internal BD drive
Asus Z87-Plus Motherboard

I don't suppose anyone has some ideas why my motherboard fully recognizes the 4K card but can't install the drivers? I'm stumped. :p

Can you send in an email to support with the model of the camera (GH4) and if possible, the firmware the camera is running?

Also include the info about your motherboard and graphics card and Desktop Video driver so we can do some further digging on this.

@hoodsdavidscott

Try putting the IP4K in the very bottom slot and see if it will allow yo to install the drivers and update it. The IP4K was always very flaky on earlier firmware versions if you put it in a slot where the bus-lanes go through the CPU which is what you have it doing right now. If you can get it to update the firmware in the lower slot then you should be bale to move it afterwards if it needs to be moved

I got a IP4K for a station : MB: Asus Z170/Proc: Intel 6700K + W10 + Edius 8.1.
I inserted it on the CM bottom connector.

For HD projects :
All is fine in HD output from Edius 8.1 : audio by cinch, HDMI to monitor 1080p

But I can't enter audio in cinch line-in : Windows panel / Record tab/ Line-in is set to : not available.
Why ?

For UHD projects : the convert option 2016p/1080p is not effective.
My monitor 1080p receive 2160p signal.

BM cards are not designed to be used as standard sound cards. If you want to capture just audio then you either have to use a standard sound card or capture the audio only inside an editing program, but you still have to feed in a video signal at the same time, so inside Edius you would probably need to open the capture window, untick the video option in the capture window and it would then just capture the audio part

Thank Adam.

Now I use Asus CM sound card to enter a signal audio to Edius.
It's OK.

But for UHD projects : the convert option 2016p/1080p is not effective.
My monitor 1080p still receive 2160p signal.
Is a BMD hardware problem known ?
Or is just an issue about driver ?

I test the last driver 15.5.1, but I get a superb W10 Blue sccren !

I can't get my new Intensity Pro 4K to work at all, because the driver is being disabled due to not being digitally signed. How can BMD sell a product that's not using certified drivers??

You don't specify what OS you're running but Windows users must have ALL of the Windows updates installed to install Desktop Video. Make sure your system is currently updated to the latest version. If after that you are still getting errors, please get the exact build number and contact support for your region. You can find contact information in my signature below.
