HyperDeck Shuttle doesn't see SSD

Hi,
I just received my devices, I purchased the package from B+H photo including an Intel "Speed Demon" drive. Too bad, I didn't check on BM's site for compatible drives beforehand.
Whatever, the unit detects the drive as the SSD LED lights red when I insert the drive. However the drive will not appear on the desktop, different USB cables, checking Disk Utility, I even tried on a PC.
Do I have to conclude that the SSD is faulty? I opened the BM HyperDesk Utility, I could open it and successfully change the video recording format. So I have no doubt about the Shuttle.
Any idea or advice what I'm doing wrong with the drive? Living in Malaysia makes returning the drive to B+H in New York a costly enterprise and I do not want to believe that a brand new drive is faulty.

And the SSD ist formatted in HFS or ExFAT ? Can you access to the disk using your computer ?

Hi,
When you mentioned about the drive does not appear on desktop, are you referring to browsing the SSD content by connecting the HyperDeck Shuttle via usb cable?
I am sorry the usb connect is only used for firmware update and setting of the Shuttle. It does not mount the SSD to your computer. You have to remove the SSD from the Shuttle and connect to your computer via a esata dock or a connecting cable.
You may contact me if you are still in doubt.

Thanks for the quick and detailed answers!

I basically figured it out myself, back home from my office I dropped the SSD into a conventional casing and I could format the SSD that way. - I assume that that was all :-) Tomorrow back in my office I will insert the SSD into the Shuttle and I'm confident that everything will work as expected.

@Eddie, I was unaware that the Shuttle doesn't mount the drive via USB. Luckily I have a eSATA 2.5" casing so the xfer should be fast enough.

Thanks again, if I encounter other problems I will get back here!
