EDID,Color Space and Bit Depth

PostFri Oct 09, 2015 5:44 pm

Greetings,
I work with Set Top Box (STB) receivers and I am trying to determine the color space and bit depth of the content coming out of HDMI output.

I have been informed by our STB engineering team that the color space and bit depth are determined by the receiving component e.g. the TV or capture card in our case will tell the STB what color space and bit depth to use through EDID information.

Our content team has informed me that the content is encoded with YUV 4:2:0 10 bit.

When I record this content with Media Express I get an .avi file that says it is YUV 4:2:2 8 bit.

I've tried with different frame rates and resolutions but always end up with the same color space and bit depth.

So, does the Media Express Card always use YUV 4:2:2 8 bit?
Respectfully,
Ed

What is written to the file is not necessarily what is coming into the card. You can control the codec via Media Express preferences, which sounds like you have set to YUV 8-bit

Thanks Chad! I'll play around with the settings in Media Express.
