Backup recording in second slot

PostFri Sep 30, 2016 1:13 pm

Disclaimer:
This topic may have been talked to death already and if it has I apologize for my failure to find a thread on it.

Equipment:
Black magic hyper deck studio firmware 4.4.3

So recently after recording an event I had a hard drive fail and it got me wondering is there any way to use the second SSD slot to simultaneously record a backup copy? Not sure if there are hardware limitations or not but it would be a great feature. Thanks for any help.

Are there any aftermarket programs that would allow for backup recordings?

Sorry, I dont't know any software solution for backing up the SSD during record. This would be a solution replacing the original firmaware....

The Ethernet port is not for file Transfer, only cor Controlling the deck.

I'm a old school boy. So my backup is a downconverted signal on a DV tape (with JVC BR 3000 and a DVCAM 184 tape up to 4 hours recording - But I think new tape recorders will not be available).

If HD is needed, I would invest in a second Hyperdeck Studio (or a shuttle, but it has no 19" format). It prevents against SSD failure, but also against Hyperdeck failure.

Indeed what Thomas says.. Get a second hyperdeck or something like a Atomos or Video assist running along.

Spread the risks in recording because drives and recorders can fail.!! Had drives fail, had hyperdecks stop after half an hour, had a hyperdeck which crashed after 4 hours at the point i hit the stop recording button..  Whole file was corrupted.. As there is no way in the hyperdecks to auto generate files of 10 minutes or 4gb or so.. (just as a sort of failsafe system...)

I use BMD video assist and record it on it as well for backup recording..Its always better to have a backup recording and not just rely on 1 hard drive recording
