Coax cable length

Greetings all.

I am equipping our road crew with the ability to send a 1080 60p video feed from front of house to a venues video room for IMAG.
Path is from an HDMI source (laptop) to HDMI/SDI Mini converter to SDI/HDMI mini converter to venues video input.

My question is: using the highest quality coax, what would be my max cable length?

Thanks for the help!

Tim

Tran,

Thank you so much for the reply.

I'm assuming you gave a spec for the converter. Correct?
Can you tell me where you found that.
I can't seem to locate it.

Again thank you!

Tim

This is Belden's chart for all their different cable type and transmission distance (depending on if 3G, 6G, or 12G is needed), and SDI is nice that if you do need extra length, just reclock it and keep going.

https://www.belden.com/docs/upload/Reco ... _Chart.pdf

Edit: A quick question-- just for my own curiosity-- but you're feeding a laptop to the side venues IMAG screens? Is a more lag-free camera/audio source not available to go over the SDI?

Hi Ben!

Sorry for just now replying.

We are going into different venues (Performing arts centers, Churches, Theaters) and playing pre-produced videos before, during and after an event so lag-time is not a concern.

Thanks for the info.

Tim

Ah- makes more sense. If lag is no problem, moon is the limit, as long as you use high quality cable/connectors and reclock/distribution amp every few hundred feet (following the bElden chart).

Good luck to you!

Two thumbs up. I get more delay than that on some hardware.
