What if laptop has no thunderbolt port?

I'm trying to set up ultrastudio mini recorder on a laptop that doesn't have a thunderbolt port. It does have hdmi, so I figured I could use that (used thunderbolt to hdmi cable). But the Mini Recorder can't be detected; also, the little light next to the thunderbolt port on the recorder does not light up.

I suppose HDMI is a no, here?

Any tips apart from get a MacBook (seriously considering it, though, sadly low on funds, however).

HDMI is output: from computer to video; the thunderbolt port is input to your computer ......

The Thunderbolt to hdmi converters don't work for this.

If your laptop does not have Thunderbolt you wont get this up and running.

Don't Go the USB 3.0 route.. this wont work either on modern laptops. The chipset for the usb 3.0 was more miss Then hit to get it to work..

Right, I'll have to try another laptop with a thunderbolt, see if I can get it to work.

Lesson: RTFM before assuming anything.
