SDI cable

PostSun May 21, 2017 9:51 pm

Our cameras are only 30 feet from the switcher. Can I use RG-59 for that. For that distance, RG-6 seems to be over kill.

I run 1080i50 successfully over a distance of 50m / 150ft using RG59. So 10m / 30ft should not be a problem.

The only issue with most RG59 cable. Is it is solid core and stiff, not very flexible. I prefer a nice flexible cable for camera use, and used Canare 3G/6G SDI cables, they are very flexible, and you can get 30-foot lengths ready made up.

We use Belden 1855a for runs under 100ft. Very small diameter, easy to handle. It's also all we use to do internal wiring on our rack cases.
