Importing lossless files
Posted: Fri Jul 14, 2017 7:55 am
Hello everyone,
I am new to Resolve, and while I am already making progress regarding the controls and everything, I am having a lot of trouble with file formats and video codecs.
According to PDF DaVinci_Resolve_12.5_Supported_Codec_List.pdf (am not allowed to post link) it should be possible to open certain uncompressed AVI files with DaVinci Resolve. I recorded a file with OBS Studio (aka Open Broadcaster Software Studio) and it gives this information with MediaInfo:
The file does not show up when opening its folder under "Media". I tried to gather more information on the topic and now understand that lossless is not the same as uncompressed, but I also tried multiple other lossless, uncompressed or high quality output formats in OBS, none of them were accepted by Resolve. MP4 and MOV are visible under "Media" but with a big red sign stating "Media Offline".
I am recording screencasts with OBS (not games but web applications) and would like to have the best quality when editing. Using a lossy codec always means that e.g. the text on buttons and such does not look as sharp as when using a lossless codec.
What format / codec could I use? I am also completely fine with converting files before importing them to Resolve. File size is not an issue as my videos will only be a few minutes long each.
Any help is highly appreciated!
