New User MacBook Pro

Greetings. I am very new to all of this is slightly UN-geeky. We purchased the BMPCC a few months back and my son is purchasing a MacBook Pro this month. We noticed when running davinci on our laptop that we were severely lacking in memory for the software. Will we be able to open and edit files on the MBP?

I queried MacBook but I fear I'm not knowledgable enough to understand much of the technical dialogue.
