Indicaton of operation/connecton

I'm trying to get an UltraStudio Mini Recorder working with a laptop running Ubuntu. It's not working and I'm trying to figure out where the problem is. I notice there is a small hole in the case next to the thunderbolt port and I'm wondering if there is a LED behind that hole that indicates a successful connection. Is this the case or not.

Edit Jan 2. Does the LED get power from the thunderbolt end or the HDMI end or both? Since the laptop can duel boot into Windows 10. I have installed the Desktop Video software on windows as well, and it is not functioning there either.

Any suggestions, please...
