I need a silent HD Video recording solution for a small greenscreen studio where I want to be able to maintain
sound studio levels of quiet (as any good microphone will pick up the fan and disk noise certainly from my Mac Pro and probably from most laptops, even those running on Solid State Disks [SSD's]).
I could go with a Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 and record uncompressed, but it just occurred to me that the hyperdeck may have internal cooling fans which need to activate when the unit is processing HD Video streams. Can anyone reassure me that it records silently?
I have been waiting to purchase a hyperdeck which encodes and records ProRes, but Blackmagic doesn't yet offer it. When they do, I'll be able to record silently, and take my camera into the field with decent recording times available. That'll be nice.
I'm also curious about the new Ultrastudio option, but would like to confirm that it wouldn't work either. I don't believe you could simply connect an external thunderbolt drive and record HD SDI silently. It appears to be hardware designed to be driven by a laptop. And a laptop either encoding or passing through an HD stream to an external (thunderbolt) drive would get hot, and turn on it's fans, I believe.
If there's a silent option about which I'm unaware, or if any of the above assumptions are wrong, could someone explain? Many thanks.
