H.264 Pro Recorder device disconnecting capture stops

Hi all,

I have the H.264 Pro Recorder. I have been capturing live video from two DSLRs and backing up content from a set top box via HDMI (there is no HDMI EDID handshake issue with this).

With all devices I am continuously getting the error in Media Express in the attached screenshot..."Media Express could not capture the clip: Capture has stopped because your device has been disconnected. Your capture has been saved to disk. Please check your device and reinitialize capture."

I have replaced every cable involved with an additional two alternatives with no change (ie HDMI cables and the USB cable) and used three different Windows machines and my 2018 Macbook Pro, and the problem occurs with every scenario.

The length of capture before getting the error ranges from 20 mins to 6 hours.

I didn't have this issue for perhaps the first 4 weeks of using it (it may have happened once or twice but not as consistently as now), so I sent it back to my local distributor. They tested it but said they did a long capture without issue and sent it back to me. It stayed in the box until the last couple of weeks and problems still persist.

The other thing I notice is sometimes the device isn't recognised when I open Media Express. Under the device menu, it will say "No device connected." In this instance I have to restart the computer to get it recognised.

Any help much appreciated. Do you think the device disconnecting means the H.264 Pro Recorder or the source device? Thanks again.

Any new software installed ? latest version HDMI cables ?
Some other app(s) might try to use resources which give conflict ? check which programs run in background.
Recently added a new device in the setup ? no hf/rf interference from nearby equipment ?
any spikes/drops in mains power ? (try different setups, or locations) storage devices O.K. ?
Previously your setup worked fine ? you remember when it changed ?

Hi, thanks for the reply:
-no new software
-HDMI cables not changed since problem started, but would you still recommend getting newer spec HDMI cables?
-I've closed every other program and it still occurs
-no new devices in setup, and consistent across three different systems (2x Windows 10, 1x Mac)
-HF/RF interference: will look into it
-spikes/drops in mains power: possible, how would I address this?
-storage is fine, they are all internal SSDs, and consistent across the 3 devices
-I remember when it changed, but I'm pretty sure there were no changes to any devices or additions of hardware or software

Any other advice really appreciated, thank you

Spikes could be addressed by putting your equipment on different mains groups/sockets, or it should be checked out by a electrician/expert.
cables are okay, by the sound of your answer i guess..
Your capture is interrupted, by the looks of the screen message, normaly this would mean the video signal input was not clean, saying this, you could do a test by connecting directly an known stable video source, like video image generator, or camera, also try this at a different locations, with the equpment, and build your setup up (like it was) by adding one equipment piece at a time, and notice when/where the failure occurs. (deducting)
Only other thing could be that equipment is overheating on different time points, because the times of failure are so different.
(btw. could it be possible the video data rate could be too fast ? 3G 8G etc..)

this is all i know in such a case, otherwise it's a good idea to invlolve somebody else at your location, that will have a fresh look on the matter, sometimes you just can overlook something, without knowing it.
I hope this somehow helps you.

Thanks very helpful, will do all this...the H.264 Pro Recorder has gotten very hot at times...
With data rate, does 3G mean 3Gbps? The data rate is probably up around 10-11 Gbps...

Yes, but i don't know really if the data rates will apply in your case, that's a wild guess from me, sorry.
try too cool the recorder with a fan and see if that matters.
