DeckLink Mini Recorder Acquisition Suggestion

PostSat Sep 22, 2018 4:48 pm

Hi, I'm buying a DeckLink Mini Recorder to acquire video from an endoscopic sdi probe.
With the old card I used VLC to acquire video end take screenshot. It was very simple, only open VLC, select the card and that's it. By using only two shortcuts I can do all.
Now I ask you for an alternative software to do the same things in easy way.
I don't want a video editing software like Corel Videostudio only to acquire videos or picture, it's annoying.

I really hope in your help, i love this little video card.

Thanks

DeckLink Mini Recorder PC Requirements

PostSun Sep 23, 2018 3:46 pm

Hi Forum, I searched everywhere but the Blackmagic site is very confusing.
I need to know the minimum PC requirements for that card because I would install it on a Intel G4400, 8GB RAM and 1TB HDD.
I will capture only videos at 1280x720@25FPS.
Thanks

Based on the info from BMD I would guess that if you have the right physical connector (e.g. PCI Express, 1 lane minimum) and you can run the Desktop Video software and the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test gives you a green-light (red check mark) for your desired recording format that you're good to go.

Your CPU is 64-bit compatible and you've got 8gb of RAM so I'm guessing you're on a 64-bit OS (a 32-bit Windows OS would not be able to use that much RAM). That's a fairly modern CPU, dual core dual thread. That should be fine for the Desktop Video software. The 1tb HDD? Not SSD? Probably not an issue doing 720p@25. SSD is usually the way to go but I can record 720p to a portable USB3 HDD... The Blackmagic Disk Speed Test is really the way to go to find out what you'll be capable of.

Desktop Video System Requirements:
Your computer requires at least 4gb of RAM to efficiently process video.

Mac OS:
Black Magic Desktop Video Software runs on the latest versions of Mac OS.

Windows:
Desktop Video runs exclusively on 64-bit versions of Windows 7, 8, and 10 with the latest service pack installed.

Linux:
Desktop Video runs on 32-bit and 64-bit x86 computers running Linux 2.6.23 or higher. Please refer to the release notes for the latest list of supported Linux distributions, package formats and software dependencies.

Oh, finally someone that answer me!
Yes, my OS is 64bit version of Windows 10, so no problem.
Only a last question, I need to acquire from a medical probe ith SDI output.
I would to do this by using a foot switch.
So, do you know some software that accepts keyboard shortcut to acquire?
In the pas I used VLC, but this card seems non compatible with it.
Moreover I noticed that the included BMD software doesn't accept shortcut for the "Acquire" button.
Thanks in advance

Just about all software accept keyboard shortcuts to acquire.

BMD's Media Express - Ctrl+R
OBS - has assignable hotkeys for pretty much every function you'd want.

edit: removed the quote which was odd
