No Remote - iPhone 4 & BM Intensity Pro

PostFri May 10, 2013 3:42 pm

Hi everyone,

bought 2 weeks ago the wonderfull Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro model.

What I want to do is simply mirror my iPad2/iPhone 4 with my Mac. I have an iPad/HDMI connector plugged into my iPad that is running an HDMI cable into the BM Intensity Pro box and a Thunderbolt cable running into my MAC. On opening the Blackmagic Media Express, I am unable to get the iPad screen mirrored on my Mac Screen for capture. I am sitting on the 'Log and Capture' tab with nothing.

Already checked every single Output-Option under preferences with the same result.

Anyone with same issues?

Thanks so far,
yd

Honestly, that question beats me. I hoped, that mirroring would be easy as it is via AirServer. First I used the default settings and later on tried it with every single video format

I suspect the iPad is outputting 1920x1080 60p which is not supported on the Intensity Pro. Hopefully someone can confirm that.
Does it have any settings to change the output?
It's also possible that the iPad only puts out a protected stream (HDCP). (again someone would need to confirm this)

You need to find out what formats the devices output, and whether they only output protected streams.

The iPhone 4 outputs 720p

I can confirm the iPad does indeed output HDCP....so you won't be able to capture movies or videos you bought on itunes or anything like that.

Using now an iPhone 4, but still no Picture :(
As "Project Viedeo Format" I've selected HD 720p 60 and for "Capture File Format" the "QuickTime Uncomressed 8-bit YUV"? Is it possible, that something is wrong with the BM Intensity Pro? System Informations says, that the BM Intensity Pro is connected through Thunderbolt. Anthing else to know while tryin to mirror my iPhone. I really need to get this down by Friday this week :(
Any further suggestions what may cause an error?

Okee simpely said: Connect the cable to your TV and check if you run the games you want to present / stream. If you have video output on your TV it is okee.. (can be that the ipad 3 has more grafick processing power to do both screen and external output.)

My experience is that on a ipad 2 or iphone 4 the external output in normal idle state of the ipad does not output any video.

When i start youtube player. Then the external output gets active and start putting out video. So simple check.. Hook it up to your LCD TV or something. and start your games. If you have video on your LCD it is oke. Then only the output resolution and framerate does matter to get everything working.. :)

Indeed, in idle state there is no output signal, by starting the youtube player I get the Screen on my Mac. Unfortunately doesn't work with my other apps, what actually was the main reason why I bought the BM Intensity Pro.

I use an Apple TV to mirror my iPad display into an Intensity Pro. I only tested in 720p60 (59.94) mode.... but it works great. The Apple TV allows you to specify the output format... which I don't know if you have the option of doing when you directly connect the iPhone using the HDMI connector.
