2 plans for: SDI -> H.264 ->Wowza Does this work?

PostWed May 15, 2013 8:22 am

Hey there,
for a project we plan to realize a live streaming solution.
We have some cameras sending their signals via SDI to a mixer and the mixer itself also provides SDI signal output. No we need to get this to h.264 and send it to Wowza media server.

I have to 2 plans for this:

First:
Using the "Blackmagic H.264 Pro Recorder". Plugging in SDI to the box and capture the h.264 signal via HDMI(?) or USB(?) on a small pc with ffmpeg and sending it via RTMP to Wowza. Os will be Windows or Linux.
Would this work as easy as I hope?

Second plan:
Using the "Blackmagic DeckLink SDI" and plug it into the pc. Plugging in the SDI and capture the signal from the card via ffmpeg. Encode to h.264 and then sending to Wowza.

What do you guys think will this work or am I thinking completely wrong?

1./ for H264 recorder use windows and software http://www.mxlight.co.uk .. it have lot of features and expand H264 Pro recorder possibilities about 1000x .. u do not need ffmpeg .. encoding is in hardware H264 recorder , so U not need heavy computer ..

2./ this is better IMHO .. im using this way on linux and it works great .. ffmpeg (with x264) is really great encoder .. but u need more CPU power ..

First thanks for your reply!
I would have suggested that the first solution would be better because all the encoding would be done in hardware and the software just forwards the bits to the real streaming server.

Do I need some special drivers or other software for solution 2 or would this work out of the box, because you say you are using this solution.

yes , Ur right .. hardware encoding is better .. with good encoder .. H264 Recorder PRO isnt very good encoder .. especially in low bitrates - typicaly used for internet ..

for software sollution , u need compile bmdtools on linux .. i was put here on forum compilled binaries , so u can download it and use ..
