BM Video Assist to record macbook pro screen?

PostTue Nov 27, 2018 3:09 pm

Hey,

Is it possible to plug the thunderbolt/HDMI output from a Macbook Pro laptop into the BM Video Assist in order to record the screen?

I've read in another forum that this depends on the computer, because the video assist expects some specific video output, but I wasn't able to find any information about whether it's possible with the MBP. Has anyone been able to try this out?

Basically I just want to record whatever is shown on the computer, as if it was recording what you see on a monitor.

I know it's possible to do screen recordings in software, but I run very CPU intensive programs so running a screen recorder is way too slow, so I'm looking for a hardware option that can take the load off of the computer for the video recording part.

If this is not possible with the Video Assist, can you please recommend some other hardware that can do this?

Thanks!

what a concept! I never would have thought of trying this, but just did using my Mac Mini, and it worked. I got a nice live recording of the screen, including mouse movements, etc.

Awesome that's good to hear, thanks for testing it out.

Was the screen resized to 1920x1080 when you plugged it into the VA? Or was it cropped/clipped in some way? Did you have to run any special software to send the correct resolution or did it automatically work just like a regular monitor? Thanks again.

According to mediainfo (see report pasted below) it's 1920x1080, but the image was cropped a bit (it didn't capture my full monitor screen, which is 2560 x 1440. I'll post an image shortly
