Updating NON 4K Video Assist

PostSun Dec 30, 2018 11:01 pm

I have the Blackmagic Video Assist, but NOT the 4K version, and would like to start using it.

-The Blackmagic Video Assist Setup software available in the Support center downloads section (last two versions) is only listed as 'Blackmagic Video Assist Update / This software update adds performance enhancements for Video Assist 4K.' Can I / should I use it on my non 4K Video Assist?

-It's only offered in mac / windows versions. I'm on Linux. Is there a workaround, or should I borrow a computer for the upgrade?

-Any ideas whether BM RAW will come to my Video Assist?

Many thanks.

The 5" VA will display 4K but will NOT record 4K.
The 7" VA will display 4K and ALSO record 4K.

So I should apply the update to my unit?

Only if you bought your five inch video assist many years ago and never updated it. The latest update does not have anything new for the 5 inch VA.

Actually, the 7-inch VA is UHD, not full 4K. The 5-inch VA is HD only, but can down convert UHD to HD for display and recording in HD. The recent 4K FW update will not add any additional features to the 5-inchnHD VA, but will update it to the latest FW for the 5-inch HD model.

Bought it in 2016, so in the world of video tech, that's 'many' years ago. Thank you.

Ian, BM is always tweaking things, somit would not hurt to run the latest VA FW update to see.
